    Poet, political thinker and supporter of Oliver Cromwell, John Milton was born in 1608 but his influences in literature and political thought continue to resonate. This event celebrating 400 years since his birth featured poetry and discussion about his life and works
  • Chaired by John Waite, BBC Radio 4 presenter of You and Yours and Face the Facts the event featured

    Andrew Motion, former Poet Laureate, as well as being a distinhished poet and promoter of poety is Professor of Creative Writing at Royal Holloway and recently co-founded The Poetry Archive;

    Gordon Campbell, Professor of Renaissance Studies at the University of Leicester. A highly respected authority on Milton and the co-editor of the acclaimed biography, John Milton; Life, Work and Thought;

    Claire Tomalin, one of the UK's leading biographers whose books include recent biographies of Samuel Pepys and Thomas Hardy. She recently edited Poems of John Milton

    The poetry was read by the professional performer Lance Pierson and music was provided by singer Belinda Yates
