20th Sep 2010Thomas Hardy
Exploring Hardy’s life and poetry, four contemporary poets performed a selection of Hardy’s captivating verse alongside their own work. Their poems, which are responses to Hardy’s fiction and verse, intertwine with the poet’s work to create an animated conversation reflecting on the man, his legacy and his words. -
The event was hosted by former Poet Laureate Andrew Motion, acclaimed biographist of Hardy and Tom Paulin, author of Thomas Hardy: The Poetry of Perception and featured the contemporary poets:
Paul Hyland, esteemed poet, travel writer and biographer;
Kate Scott, a poet whose work has been broadcast on Radio 4 and in the US;
Catherine Simmonds, whose recent collection of prose poems is drawn from the diaries of Dorothy Wordsworth; and
Pam Zinnemann-Hope, children’s author, poet and playwright.
Laura Cattell conducted interviews with the participants which can be found here.
