The third event in an exciting series of six poetry events that was held in collaboration with the Romanian Cultural Institute that explored contemporary Romanian culture through the eyes of its most accomplished poets.

Bogdan Ghiu (b. 1958) is one of the best known Romanian poets of the 80’s Generation and an active media analyst. Bogdan has received the prestigious Romanian Writers’ Union Award for his poetic works The One Metre Side Poem (1996) and The Art of Consuming, (1996). His most recent anthology is (The Cardboard Poem) Traces of Destruction on Mars, (2006). Bogdan’s Performing History was also used as the conceptual basis for Romania’s 2011 entry to the acclaimed Venice Biennale art exhibition.

This event was hosted by Amanda Hopkinson, Reader at the School of Literature at the University of East Anglia, who will provide an English introduction and will place the poets in context for the English-speaking members of the audience.

Poetry in Romanian was also be read and performed in English translation.
