An evening of Mexican poetry from the first half of the 20th century, including the turbulent years of the Mexican Revolution and its aftermath.

Introduced by Stephen Hart, Professor of Hispanic Studies at University College London, this event also featured:
Dawn Adés, professor at the University of Essex, Fellow of the Royal Academy, and distinguished expert on Mexican art and literature;

Ignacio Duran Loera, Minister for Cultural Affairs at the Mexican Embassy in London, and a distinguished film producer and lecturer; and

Jason Wilson, Professor at the Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies at University College London and author of books about Hispanic literature including recent titles about Jorge Borges and Octavio Paz

The poetry was read in the original Spanish and in English translation by the actors Jerōnimo Best and Lucy Tregear.

Mexican songs were performed by the band Mariachi Mexteca, led by band leader Salvador Jimenez.
