Poet in the City presents an event exploring the life and work of Ted Hughes, marking the 50th anniversary of Modern Poetry in Translation.

When Ted Hughes and Daniel Weissbort founded MPT in 1965 they had two principal ambitions: to get poetry out from behind the Iron Curtain into a wider circulation in English and bring an English speaking readership into contact with some of the best poetry from around the world.

Featuring acclaimed poet and former MPT editor David Constantine, with poet and current editor Sasha Dugdale, acclaimed classicist Edith Hall and 2014 Next Generation poet Tara Bergin, this special event will look at Hughes’s poetry and his own translations, celebrating one of the true giants of 20th Century poetry. We're delighted to be joined by actor and star of Spooks and The Thick of It, Geoffrey Streatfeild, who will perform Hughes's poetry
