Poet in the City and Faber & Faber present an event exploring the work of one of the twentieth century’s most popular poets.

Satirical, mischievous, teasing, disarming, Stevie Smith’s poetry takes readers from comedy to tragedy and back again. She remains a compelling and enigmatic figure, a poet of many different and often surprising, sides.

This special event will bring to life her world through words and images, in celebration of a truly distinctive poetic voice. Smith’s unique line drawings will be screened alongside live poetry readings and discussion from leading experts including the editor of The Collected Poems and Drawings of Stevie Smith, Will May and biographer Frances Spalding, writer and journalist Rachel Cooke.

Following her success playing Smith at the Hampstead Theatre, celebrated actor Zoë Wanamaker joins us to read the poetry.
