Rumi: The Universe in Ecstatic Motion

“In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest where no-one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.”

In the 810th year since his birth, the words and ideologies of Rumi have transcended both time and borders to make him one of the most widely read and honoured poets that ever lived.

As both a poet and a Sufi mystic, Rumi’s faith deeply influenced his creative endeavours, and in turn he began to infuse his religion with his art, instigating the creation of a form of moving meditation commonly known as the Whirling Dervish. Through an evening of music, poetry and performance we trace the spiritual threads that tie Rumi’s poetry to his Islamic faith and learn how these ties have made him such a universally relatable figure. Featuring scholar Raficq Abdulla, poet Sukina Pilgrim, musician Zayn Mohammed and Mevlevi Dervish Tomo Goto of the The Study Society.

This event is now SOLD OUT. Please call Wilton's Box Office on 020 7702 2789 to be put on the waiting list.
