Poet in the City Producers present... Beyond Words: The Songs of Sign Language

‘Genuine poetry communicates before it is understood.’ - TS Eliot

Join us for a silent exploration of the music that's made when poetry is translated to sign language as we unpick BSL's relationship to the arts through performance and discussion with signrapper SignKid and actor Nadia Nadarajah.

The event will be BSL interpreted. You can view Kings Place's accessibility information here. If you have any further accessibility requirements or questions please get in touch with sarisha@poetinthecity.co.uk or 0207 014 2812 (office hours between 9.30am-5.30pm)

Signkid is the UK’s first and only deaf music producer, writer and performer to have pioneered and developed a unique aesthetic by integrating and adapting British Sign language (BSL) signing into a visually based language suited specifically for live hip-hop music performance.

Nadia trained at the International Visual Theatre in Paris in Physical and bilingual acting. Theatre Credits include: GOING THROUGH (Bush Theatre), A CHRISTMAS CAROL (Bristol Old Vic), HAMLET & AS YOU LIKE IT (Shakespeare's Globe), THE UNHEARD WORLD (Arlington Artist Centre, Newbury), OUR TOWN (Royal Exchange, Manchester), UNTOUCHABLE (RADA Festival), THE HOUSE OF BERNARDA ALBA (Royal Exchange, Manchester), CAN I START AGAIN PLEASE (UK Tour), NOTRE DAME (National Theatre), GROUNDED (Deafinitely Theatre at Park Theatre), A MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM (Shakespeare's Globe), WINDIBOPS (UK Tour), TYRANNOSAURUS DRIP (Stratford Circus), LOVE LABOURS LOST (Shakespeare's Globe), TANIKA'S JOURNEY (Deafinitely Theatre), GIRLS AND DOLLS (Southwark Playhouse), DEAFHOOD (Bristol Old Vic), INVISIBLE (Deafinitely Theatre), I BELIEVE IN UNICORNS and WE'RE GOING ON A BEARHUNT (Little Angel Theatre).
