Poet in the City was delighted to present the 2nd event in an important new series celebrating the very best of contemporary European poetry.

Ester Naomi Perquin’s debut volume, Servetten halfstok, was published in 2007. It was followed in 2009 by the collection Namens de ander. In 2011 she was appointed the City Poet of Rotterdam. She has received a number of prizes for her work, among which the Liegend Konijn prize, the Anna Blaman prize, the Lucy B. and C.W. van der Hoogt prize and the J.C. Bloem prize. Her latest volume, Celinspecties (Cell inspections), was published in early 2012 and was awarded the VSB Poetry Prize for the best volume of 2013.

In partnership with The School of European Languages, Culture and Society at UCL, the Contemporary European Poets series brought to London celebrated poets from Hungary, Holland, France, Germany, the Faroe Islands and Italy, for showcase events at Europe House. Events will include live readings by the poets, with all poems read both in the original language and in brand new specially commissioned English translations.
