Poet in the City was delighted to present an evening with the acclaimed writer Nick Drake, to launch the publication of his new collection of poetry, The Farewell Glacier.

Nick Drake is a poet, screenwriter, playwright, and novelist. His first poetry collection, The Man in the White Suit (1999) won the Forward Prize for Best First Collection in 1999, and his screenplay for Romulus, My Father, starring Eric Bana, won Best Film at the Australian Film Awards in 2007.

Nick Drake's latest collection, The Farewell Glacier, grew out of his recent journey to the Arctic with the arts climate change organisation, Cape Farewell. The poems gather together voices from across the Arctic past – explorers, whalers, mapmakers, scientists, financiers, the famous and the forgotten – as well as attempting to give voice to the confronting mysteries of the high Arctic: the animal spirits, the shape-shifters and the powers of ice and tundra. The collection looks into the future, to the year 2100, when this glorious winter Eden will have vanished forever.
