Poet in the City was delighted to present a reading by the acclaimed poet Tishani Doshi, to launch her newest collection, Everything Begins Elsewhere.

Tishani Doshi is a poet, dancer, and novelist. Her debut collection of poems, Countries of the Body, won the Forward Prize for Best First Collection in 2006, and her first novel, The Pleasure Seekers, met with critical acclaim. She is the recipient of an Eric Gregory Award, winner of the All-India Poetry Competition, and was selected to represent India in the 2012 Poetry Parnassus at the Southbank Centre.

The poems in her latest collection, Everything Begins Elsewhere, are powerful meditations born on the joineries of life and death, union and separation, memory and dream, where lovers speak to each other across the centuries, and daughters wander into their mothers’ childhoods. As much about loss as they are about reclamation, Doshi’s poems make the exhilarating claim that through the act of vanishing, we may be shaped into existence again.
